What is an Ordinary Prepper
Welcome to the newest section of our website. Here we will talk about what it means to be an ordinary prepper. You might be asking what an ordinary prepper is? It might be helpful to first talk about what it is not. We are not prepping for a zombie apocalypse or WWIII. We are not expecting to be taken over by aliens and have to survive an invasion of that sort. If any of those things happened we would probably be better prepared than some, but that is not our goal. We live on the Clackamas River in a rural area just outside of a big city. We live in a private community that began in the 1920’s as group of fishing cabins and later became a mix of fishing cabins and full-time homes. Today, it is mostly full-time homes connected by gravel roads, sharing a community well. It is an amazing area to live but is also a bit more rustic than many. Directly across the river from us is a state park and we are surrounded by forest. In the past couple of years we have been threatened by floods and forest fires (the neighborhood had to evacuate at one point and almost another). We lose our power usually 5-10 times per year. This year it got down to 15 degrees at a time when we lost our power for a few days. Our community well is on a generator that runs on propane. Propane tanks are finite in nature, and when full, ours will go for a couple of weeks without electricity keep the water running to our neighborhood. We started to push that a little this winter. I was checking that propane gauge everyday during the power outage to assure myself we would have drinking water and flushing toilets.
When I am talking about ordinary prepping, I am talking about how we might deal with any of these sort of natural incidents that can happen to us, and other incidents similar in nature to this that might happen. Our issues might be more or less extreme than what you might see at your home, but the things I talk about here will hopefully be relevant to you as it is to me. You can prep as much or as little as you like. I know prepping can get a bad name, but I think us ordinary preppers are just being ready to stay functioning when some sort of shit hits the fan. Maybe not catastrophic stuff, but even the little stuff that can make life more difficult. I want to make our home continue to function even during difficult times. My wife and dogs depend on me, and work with me, to keep us ready for what nature might bring.
Some of the things I show you here will have an affiliate link attached for purchasing items. We also have a partners page with affiliate links. If you decide you want something I share with you, feel free to use those links to purchase the item. We get a little bit of money back for that to help the site and all of the associated parts going. I will tell you that I will not share or be swayed by anything on here one way or another just to get an extra dime. Everything on here will be a truthful review and many things items will not be affiliated with me at all.
I am looking forward to having a dialog with you, hearing your thoughts, and sharing mine about ordinary prepping and outdoor adventures. With both topics my emphasis is that anyone can do this stuff. You can be any age, of any means, of any shape, size, age, and on and on and on…. to be an ordinary prepper or to have life long adventures. Stay tuned for more, and join the Adventure Vibes family.
