The Draw of the Colorado
A couple of years ago we made our first trek to Moab, Utah. What an amazing place to take your outdoor adventures to the next level. Not only do you have Arches National Park and Canyonlands National Park right there, but you also have Deadhorse Point State Park. Oh… and that brings me to the other little thing… the Colorado River. As we were doing all of the things like hiking and biking and trying UTVs, we discovered that you could white water paddle board. Now we had been paddle boarding on lakes, and big rivers that are mostly flat, and in Hawaii on the Pacific Ocean, but never on the white water of a river. So, of course, we signed up for a guided tour…. and then another bigger one…. and then we had to come back the next year and do it a couple more times. And then we moved into a house on a river with white water right in our back yard. I never knew how fun white water could be on an SUP. If you have not tried it and find yourself in Moab, you have to look up Paddle Moab. They will show you where to go and give you a guided trip that matches your abilities. The guides are really great. If you are looking for a great white water SUP, look no further than the Hala Atcha by Hala Gear. It is a great board with a unique Stomp Box fin that retracts when it hits rocks so you don’t get caught up. It is really a great board. Once you get started on the white water you may never go back. For our flat water paddles we always use Isle SUPs. We have a couple of different sized boards and they are really great. We use them on rivers, lakes, and oceans.
And before I wrap up this short entry I want to get back to the title. The Draw of the Colorado. We simply love the Colorado River. It kept bringing us back, and now we have plans to go back again. We have signed up for a summer 2023 white water rafting trip on the Colorado down the Grand Canyon. We will not be floating in one of the motorized or oar boats. We will be on one of the small rafts where all of us are paddling ourselves. We are SO excited to get back. It should be an adventure of a lifetime. We will let you know more as we prep for the trip and fill you in on all of the details as we make our way through one of the craziest white water adventures of them all.
